New Plates + Food Network = Gourmet Mama!
So, I got a gi-normous gift card to Bed Bath and Beyond at CHRISTMAS, and I am still spending it! I absolutely love to get a gift card because it requires you to spend the money in a particular store, and not get all practical and put it towards, say, a power bill or mortgage payment. Plus, Bed Bath and Beyond always has those 20% off coupons which makes shopping there all the more fun when you live for a sale like I do. I also head right for those yellow signs touting "Clearance" because you can find some awesome deals there.
After my cloth napkin purchase, I decided we really needed to have more small, salad-sized plates in our house for the toddlers. And I really don't like to buy a bunch of the melamine kid's plates since every other day there's a lead hazard in that stuff. So off to Bed Bath and Beyond I headed where I found some super swanky, square plates marked down to $1.99 a plate! I scooped up 10 for just under $20. Now, I'm not sure if it's the square shape, the rusty red color, or the fact that I have been watching a lot of "Iron Chef America" on Food Network, but I LOVE plating up dishes for the kids now! A hot dog wrapped in a crescent roll, with dollops of mustard on each side? Gourmet! Peanut Butter Toast, cut in triangles with fruit lined up in the middle? Tres Chic! It makes the everyday menu a little perkier when your food looks super cool on the plate.
If you can't find any good deals at your local BB and B, check out thrift stores and yard sales for great deals on dishes that will be new to you! And send any pics of your creations my way!
